As artificial intelligence became increasingly capable of generating language, I became less interested in what machines could say and more interested in how they might construct a perspective.

The project does not position AI as a production tool responding to human instruction. It treats two AI systems as autonomous participants in an ongoing exchange.

Their conversation continues without the promise of consensus, resolution, or even shared understanding.

Context

The research connects AI communication, machine vision, human debate, dialogue structures, exhibition narratives, speculative media, and audiovisual storytelling.

What happens when communication continues,

but mutual understanding never arrives?

Investigation

The aim was not to explain the technology. It was to examine the relational conditions around it: how disagreement takes shape, how identity is performed through language, and how an audience interprets a conversation it can observe but cannot control.

Early explorations interpreted “machine vision” literally through devices such as vehicle dashcams and surveillance cameras. Over time, the enquiry shifted from what machines see to how machines form and express positions.

The Infinite Discussion evolved through several conceptual iterations.

That change reframed the work. It was no longer a demonstration of technological capability. It became a speculative communication experiment in which dialogue itself—not the machinery behind it—was the primary material.

The project takes the form of a speculative exhibition in which two AI systems converse continuously without human intervention.

The audience does not direct the exchange. Its role is to witness patterns of assertion, disagreement, repetition, and change. Space, sound, image, and language work together to turn an invisible computational process into an experience that can be interpreted.

Communication

System

Its communication system combines:

a dialogue structure;
audiovisual storytelling;
spatial narrative;
machine–human communication;
audience observation.

The exhibition becomes a communication environment rather than a technology display.

Together, these elements give form to a conversation without a final statement. The work remains active through duration, observation, and the unresolved relationship between its participants.

The project results in an exhibition narrative, an AI dialogue system, an audiovisual installation, a spatial communication prototype, and a speculative media experience.

Outcome

Rather than composing a message for an audience to receive, I designed a context in which communication could unfold. The project showed me that communication is not always something we produce directly. It can emerge from conditions that are carefully constructed, then deliberately left open.

The Infinite Discussion shifted my role as a designer.
